Common questions
What is a good debt-to-income ratio?
Lenders generally prefer a DTI of 36% or less, with no more than 28% going to housing. A DTI above 43% may make it difficult to qualify for a mortgage.
How do I calculate my debt-to-income ratio?
Add up all monthly debt payments (mortgage, car loan, student loans, credit card minimums) and divide by gross monthly income. Multiply by 100 for the percentage.
