Common questions

How much stamp duty will I pay?

In England and Northern Ireland, from April 2025: nothing on the first £125,000, 2% to £250,000, 5% to £925,000, 10% to £1.5 million and 12% above. First-time buyers pay nothing up to £300,000 and 5% up to £500,000 on homes costing £500,000 or less. Scotland and Wales have their own taxes.

What is the difference between repayment and interest-only?

A repayment mortgage pays off the loan by the end of the term. Interest only keeps payments low, but you still owe the full amount at the end and need a plan to repay it.
