Common questions

How much is the VA funding fee?

For a purchase loan, it is 2.15% of the loan with less than 5% down the first time you use the benefit, or 3.3% after that. It drops to 1.5% with 5% down and 1.25% with 10% down. It is usually added to the loan.

Who is exempt from the VA funding fee?

Veterans receiving VA compensation for a service-connected disability, Purple Heart recipients on active duty, and eligible surviving spouses. Your Certificate of Eligibility shows whether you are exempt.

Do VA loans have PMI?

No. VA loans have no monthly mortgage insurance at any down payment, which is one of their biggest advantages.
