Common questions

How many sheets of drywall do I need?

Measure wall or ceiling area in square feet. Standard 4×8 sheets cover 32 sq ft each. Divide total area by 32 and add 10–15% for waste and cuts around doors and windows.

What size drywall should I use?

1/2-inch thick is standard for walls. Use 5/8-inch for ceilings (sag resistance) and fire-rated applications. 4×8 sheets are most common; 4×12 sheets reduce seams on long walls.
