How eBay Selling Fees Work
eBay charges sellers a final value fee on the total sale amount (item + shipping). This guide explains how that fee works and how to use the eBay Fee Calculator to see your net.
What it's for
Use the calculator when you want to know how much you’ll receive after eBay’s fee for a given sale price and shipping. You enter sale price, shipping, and the final value fee percentage (which varies by category); the calculator shows your net and the fee amount. Fee rates can change; check eBay’s current schedule for your category.
Step by step
- Enter sale price — The amount the buyer pays for the item.
- Enter shipping — The shipping amount the buyer pays. Final value fee applies to the total (sale + shipping).
- Enter final value fee % — The percentage eBay charges for your category (e.g. about 12.9% for many categories). Adjust if your category or account has a different rate.
- Read the result — You receive (after fee) and the fee amount.
How the fee works
- Final value fee is a percentage of the total amount the buyer pays: item price + shipping. eBay takes this from your payout. The rate depends on category and sometimes account type; the calculator lets you enter the rate you see in your eBay account.
So: You receive = Total − (Total × Fee% ÷ 100). Fee = Total × Fee% ÷ 100.
Example
Sale $50, shipping $10, total $60. At 12.9%: fee = $7.74, you receive = $52.26.
Tips
- Fees on shipping — Yes, eBay’s final value fee applies to the full total including shipping. Factor that into your listing strategy.
- Other fees — Listing fees, promoted listing fees, or payment processing may apply; the calculator focuses on the final value fee.
- Use the eBay Fee Calculator for your sale total and category rate.
